@alyjameslab: You're so helpful, thank you! I really appreciate such in-depth replies. :) I'll try to figure out some audio routing with Reason since usually I have to straight up use Ableton and rewire Reason into that, which is more than doable, it's just a hassle sometimes. ;P

@arctic-spaceman: Sort of.. but envelope timing, levels and parameters range are different on DX7, the YM2612 FM chip is more closer to an YM2151 but different enough to have its own characteristic sound. The nasty sound comming from the DAC is also one of the reason. However for basic patches like Sonic Bells or lead, you should find your way, remember to stick to 4 operators :) btw i think you can route the MIDI out from reason to the FMDrive Standalone and bring the audio back in the DAW.

@alyjameslab: To be honest analyzing these patches was the main reason I'm interested in getting the synth. I have the PX7, the FM unit in Reason, and I'd prefer to keep everything I'm doing in one work space if possible, and I figure since FM works the same in every unit (in principle) I would be able to recreate the sounds just by matching the parameters. Do you think I would be able to do that? :) Thanks for replying by the way!!

@arctic-spaceman: FMDrive can Import FM presets from games and there is already a preset pack that comes with it :), you will probably found that Sonic 1 presets ahaha. I suggest you to analyse how they are made so you can build some yourself, FM is a very nice synthesis method once you get the basics.
